Have you ever used masturbation to relax? Relieve a headache? Yes. So why not use it as a tool during childbirth?

First, let’s have a little lesson in biology. Birth and sex hormones are the same. Did you know that oxytocin peeks at levels 10 times higher during labor than any other time in your life? Oxytocin, also known as the love hormone, is released during both birth and during sex. Oxytocin causes the release of endorphins. Endorphins help ease pain. All of the sexy hormones that you used to make your baby also help you bring your baby into the world.

While talking about masturbation might seem embarrassing or taboo, we need to remember that sexuality and childbirth are inter-connected. Giving birth is part of female sexuality and we should embrace that.

Sexual stimulation relaxes both our bodies and our minds. It’s also a great distraction as we are more focused on the pleasure instead of the pain. Plus, compared to pain medications, it’s safe, has zero side effects, and let’s face it…it feels amazing.
